With aftermarket performance parts and rigorous off-road use, the standard pressures and lack of cooling capability become a problem. We found that the factory power steering system is capable of producing higher pressures with ease.
The Apex Boost Kit allows us to recalibrate the factory pressure relief valve, allowing us to increase steering effort by 40%. While that's good news, more power also means more heat, and the original system was overwhelmed. That's why a power steering cooler is included.
ATTENTION: This boost kit MUST be used with a cooler to function properly. Customers purchasing the standalone kit are responsible for installing a compatible cooler.
What problems did the upgrade kit have:
- No more locked steering in sub-freezing temperatures.
- Smooth steering in parking lots on hot days.
- Proper steering feel in the sand dunes.
- Less feedback on uneven ground.
- Easy steering in low humidity.
Overall, it feels like the original, but there are no longer any issues with steering or performance.
[Note: This product is not suitable for fixing steering problems due to aluminum steering housings.]
INSTALLATION & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The installation instructions for the upgrade kit and cooler are based on the most common engine variants of the 3.6 and 2.0 Turbo. The steering system is the same as for all models.
For diesel and 392 models, there may be some variation in what needs to be removed to access the pump. If necessary, refer to the pump removal guide provided by Mopar. However, this is unlikely to be necessary, as it's fairly obvious what needs to be removed.
