Description
When the ARB Simpson III replaced the previous version II, you could see the clear change in shape immediately. Although the III looks a bit smaller on the outside, it actually has a larger interior volume and a significantly better feeling of space. ARB achieved this by verticalizing the entrance area, which was previously inclined inwards.
This is an advantage, especially when changing in the tent and for anyone who likes it spacious.
At the same time, they eliminated the long, flat side of the roof and with it the annoying water pockets that formed on it.
As always, it's the details that make it!
Adjustable ventilation flaps above the side windows ensure a pleasant room climate. Small cuffs on the pull-out poles at the entrance protect against mosquitoes. Each window also has a mosquito net attached to the outside of the opaque outer material. If you open the side opaque elements a third for additional ventilation, no one can see into the tent from almost any angle due to the roofing. If you leave the mosquito net, which can be opened separately, nothing stands in the way of a good night's sleep, even on hot summer nights.
Not all roof tent owners are mountaineers. Two loops make it easier to move from the ladder through the entrance to the inside of the tent. They provide support at the right moment.
The tent material itself is Australian. Translated: more is more. In this case, that's a good thing, because it is extremely insensitive to damage and, for example, flying sparks. (Not indestructible)
The cover attached above protects against heavy rain and against heating up in summer and can be tensioned. The layer of air in between supports
in turn contributes to the good climate inside.
For us, this is also an advantage that is not to be despised: the aluminum sandwich construction of the base plate is robust, does not warp and smells neutral right from the start. The same can be said about tent fabric. We have also tested tents that had to be aired out for 2 days before being unpacked. That's not an issue with the Simpson III.
